Timeline of Booktrovert.org
Filed by Booktrovert #1 in the margins of memory
1997:
Grandma Suki gets the internet. Guestbook launched. No one knows how to delete entries.
1998:
First user refers to the site as “bookpervert.” The mods do not respond. Possibly because there are no mods.
1999:
Cathy in Tulsa proposes an Oprah’s Book Club support group. Rice krispie treats reportedly mailed but never confirmed.
2000:
Jim, a library security officer, reports cryptic notes in the book return bin. We print his comment and hang it in the break room.
2001:
Shelly staples a printout of the homepage to her workplace corkboard. Community outreach officially begins.
2004:
Entire site disappears for 7 months. When it returns, no one mentions it. We assume it went through something.
2005:
“Books And Donuts” forms in a gas station parking lot. Still meeting, we think.
2010:
A user identifies as “Unnamed Entity” and claims the books whisper. We listen. Nothing happens.
2015:
Guestbook enters existential phase. Entries become increasingly cryptic. “nothing matters lol” marks stylistic shift.
2017:
Someone leaves a book in a tree. We look for it. We do not find it. But we keep looking.
2021:
The Library Rat gnaws through the archives. Declares them “weak but respectable.” No edits made.
2023:
Idaho Paul makes a bumper sticker. No one honks. Emotional damage: moderate.
2024:
The site prepares to update its interface. Project quietly abandoned.
2025 (March):
Randy from the Future begins leaving warnings. No one knows who he is. He has a small but devoted following.
2025 (April):
Milk uncurdles. The Ghost of Mark Twain haunts twice as hard. Site traffic up 800% due to intense confusion.
I was there,
